Traditional Cures for Impotence
Chinese Medicine
When I first imagined writing an article on chinese medicine, the first images that pop into my head, a head addled by years of kung Fu movies and reading James Clavelle’s epic series ‘Shogun,” i cant help but imagine wizened old warlords and pirates spending their incalcutable wealth chasing their youth by near mythical solutions to virility.
I imagine menageries of exotic animals being slaughtered and their bones ground up for magic potions and poor families selling off their virgin daughters. Rhinoceros horn, Elephant tusk , Lion hearts, Tiger claws, unicorn tusks, the horn of a narwhale and the virginity of a maiden are pop culture references that permeate my conception of chinese medicine.
Of course this would be better described as folkloric cures for impotence in chinese medicine, their is a strong tradition of herbal cures for impotence in chinese medicine, these herbs do have a stronger reasoning for use to my western mind than simply having once being part of an animal that can be considered uber-masculine.
Factors in Impotence
Its hard to believe that a herb can cure impotence, but one considers the more finite factors that can lead to erectile disfunction or impotence. Its easier to believe that a solution is possible through herbal remedies.
Factors to Consider
- Stress
- Poor circulation
- Low overall energy
- Lack of Sex drive (mental)
- Decreased testosterone
- Side effects of prescription drugs
If one can agree that these factors can lead to impotence than its not that much of a stretch to imagine that an ancient tradition has discovered methods to alleviate the contributing factors.
Improving Circulation with Chinese herbs
Ginkgo is touted to fight against the effects of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), this in turn can improve circulation and cure impotence.
Ginkgo Biloba should be pretty well known to you, its been rather accepted as a great supplement to take to keep a healthy mind fight off memory loss in the aging. This is primarily caused by its abilities to boost circulation through the brain, but its circulation boosting properties are not specific to any part of the body. Gingko is also considered an anti-inflammatory.
A mixture of garlic, ginkgo and cayenne is suggested for the ultimate herbal circulation boost.
Ginseng; Of Course!
Ginseng is a wonder drug in chinese medicine, it cures everything! If you look around long enough its hard not to find a condition that is supposedly cured by ginseng.
But, that doesnt mean its a hoax, I wonder what world you live in if you havent felt the energy boost that ginseng delivers, its available in health food stores, convenience mart and specialty shops alike. There is certainly something to this stuff.
Ginseng is touted to greatly increase the “yang” energy. But more importantly is a great circulation booster on its own. Better blood flow equals better erections.

A stressed out unhealthy individual will have increased rates in all the factors we decided could lead to E.D. Mental and Physical, stress is a dangerous condition. Its also a bit of a weakness, highly stressed individuals have failed to acquire coping skills and a perspective that will allow them to focus on what is truly important in their lives and the possible physical, mental and social consequences of their negative thinking.
Herbs are not the only answer for stress mediation and probably are the least important of solutions. But learning to relax is is a good start for highly stressed individuals.
